Born and raised in Croatia, fine art nature photographer Franka Mlikota Gabler developed a strong fascination and admiration for nature early in life. Gabler moved to California in 1997, and soon after experiencing her first wilderness backpacking trip the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The interaction of the water, rocks, sky, plants and wildlife of the high country mountains encouraged her to pick up the camera as a medium to express her feelings and share them with others.

While enjoying expansive views, more often she finds herself drawn to details of nature that are hidden, transient, or understated. While exploring around her home, she discovered the charm of Coarsegold Creek. Dry most of the year does not attract too much attention, but comes to life with the first autumn rain to unveil a hidden beauty and splendor. With a discerning eye she uncovers hidden personalities concealed within rocks, waterfalls and trees. She has a special interest in capturing close ecological relationships that land forms, plants, and wildlife play in differing habitats.

Chris Sorensen Sculpture Project - A Sierra Art Trails Public Art Project

Sierra Art Trails established the Sierra Art Trails Public Art Fund In 2008.  This year we are thrilled to announce our first official public art project, the installation of a large outdoor sculpture at Gallery Row in Oakhurst. The sculpture will be created by Fresno’s “Man of Steel” Chris Sorensen, and placed at Gallery Row in time for the Sierra Art Trails Preview Exhibit in September.

We are very pleased to report that our project has been funded, with over $7000 in donations through Kickstarter, and from our friends, clients, and community members.  Thank you all for your donations!  The sculpture is complete and on display at Sorensen Studio in Fresno until the base platform is complete in Oakhurst.  Stay tuned for more info!

February News

We are excited to announce that Sierra Art Trails is participating in the 150th Anniversary Yosemite Grant Celebration in 2013 and 2014. The 2013 catalog will contain special features related to the Yosemite Grant and the Art History of Yosemite. The additional exposure we will receive should benefit our exhibit and events, the arts community, and our community as a whole.

Another exciting event scheduled for 2013 is the Sierra Art Trails Exhibit at Fresno City Hall scheduled for August 2013.  The exhibit will be open to all SAT 2013 artists, and will help us to promote the Art Trails weekend in the greater Fresno Area.
