July 1, 2014 - Sierra Art Trails 2014 Catalog Cover Artist Chosen

Several years ago, I was invited to an invitational event by the Foothill Conservancy. Artists from across the country gathered on preserved lands to paint plein aire and to share their visions and their techniques. After months of partnership, the artists presented a show in Fresno and San Francisco , which drew attention to beauty most people did not know existed.  It was the beginning of my love affair with the foothills.

This painting, “Morning Light at Fine Gold Creek”, is one of my favorite works. It was an early morning in Spring. I took some  reference shots to “hold” the light, and then began painting – a beautiful day of creating. Finishing touches were added in my home studio. I am particularly pleased with the movement of the water and the early morning light reflections.

January 8, 2014 - Sierra Art Trails featured in 2014 Sierra Telephone Phone Book

We are honored and excited to be featured in the 2014 Sierra Telephone phone book.  Cover artist Phyllis McAdams is a long standing supporter of our efforts and our annual Open Studio Tour.  Her cover painting is fabulous, exemplifying our commitment to the arts. I am particularly pleased about the story  because it affirms our long term goal to develop our area as an Arts Destination. It is community support, the strength of many working toward a common goal, that is the foundation of our success.

2014 promises to be a benchmark year for Sierra Art Trails . Artist sales during our annual Open Studio Tour have improved significantly over the past two years.  We see this as a hopeful sign of economic recovery in our area.  Attendance improved in 2013 as well.  Visitors came from throughout California and beyond, and were truly excited to join us for the three day annual event.

Sierra Art Trails is kicking off our 2014 activities with a Call to Artists for our spring special exhibit, "Valley View - Yosemite Trails, Currents, and Visions".  The exhibit is presented in association with the 150th Anniversary Celebration of the Yosemite Grant, legislation drafted in order to preserve and protect Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove for public use, signed into law by Abraham Lincoln in 1864.  The exhibit will open to the public at Stellar Gallery in Oakhurst on April 5th, 2014.  The submission deadline is March 10th, 2014.

The Call to Artists for our 12th annual Open Studio Tour will begin on February 1st.  The show typical features over 100 artists working in many media showing in studios, businesses, and galleries across Madera and Mariposa Counties .  This year's show will take place October 3rd through 5th, 2014.  from 10 AM to 6 PM.

The SAT catalog continues to grow as a directory of arts and culture in our region. In addition to the Open Studio Tour listings and maps, the 2014 catalog will include an exciting selection of articles, images, and special features.

The call for advertisers for the 2014 catalog is now open.  Advertising Deadline is June 1st 2014.

All told it promises to be a fabulous year.  We hope you will join us again!
